Happy New Year !

Happy New Year to one and all. Well 2009 has come even before I could get a hang of 2008. 2008 had been an eventful year for me. I experienced feelings from extreme happiness to average happiness. Anyway I hope to make this year more productive and useful . No that is not a resolution, because if it is , its going to end in 2 days.

So without much ado (drum roll) – “ Let the fun begin”.

p.s – I noticed a trend of “I”’s in my post. So just to balance things out – “ Lets hope this year sees the people of this world peaceful and happy”.

Exams almost done!

My exams are in the verge if getting done and I am more than excited about travelling  US of A. I am going to Pittsburgh and hopefully other places as well.

I have been holed up for the past 4 months in one place a k a Clemson and it has been driving my sanity to ridiculously low levels. Finally freedom !

Between now and then

A lots been happening the 3 months and while it was not enough to make me ‘not blog’ , I was pretty lazy. The month after the successful Visa Interview(oh damn!) life was moving in a frenzy, I did not feel like I was leaving something behind and I was more excited than feeling bad. After all the blowing money for dresses , suitcases and what not (my mom called it the equivalent of a marriage shopping), I booked the ticket for Aug 7 2008 early morning. Four of us - Renuka, Ajay, Deepak and yours truly were leaving to US of A. Friendship day passed on Aug 3 and I still wasn't feeling bad. My friends thought(I think) I was heartless.
..........
Never before has so much emotions, feelings hit me at the same time.I hated my intentions , my dreams , my wishes, all - to study in the US. The moment Ajay said those cruel words - "This is it guys" (when the flight left Bangalore) , I knew it was not ever going to be the same, I lost the umbrella and I was totally responsible.
I have to say that if I had come alone, this post would have never materialized because I would have been in India. I would have taken the next flight from Frankfurt to Bangalore and not had a iota of regret about it.
I am not sure if this is a common thing among people or not but I was so surprised at myself for sobbing like a child for the whole Bangalore – Frankfurt flight (here I have to mention Renuka, she was a dear) and I am still  not ashamed of it.
After a lot of self consoling that I would go home for every holiday in the US, I reluctantly pushed myself to Clemson.

The first day in US was too hazy to forget.
One of my baggage did not arrive and I was hoping that it was strong reason to go back to India.
Well it did not matter ,it arrived the next morning.
The next week was just about completing formalities and looking for assistantships and jobs.
Futile at both. Homesickness increases. The weather was nothing like the pictures. Homesickness increases.
Life was negative.
Talk about a learning curve.
I was out in the open and no umbrella.
Time moved as on as it always did, met some wonderful professors and found a topic I was interested in .
The sickness slowly started dwindling away. But I still miss home and the food.

This post might have sounded philosophical and cribby. I am sorry if I bored you more than I could have. I just wanted this off me and I want the umbrella !

The Green Blog

I have arrived in the US and i think the only worthwhile thing(no offence) which has happened to me after coming here is my encounter with a subject called ‘Sustainable Building’ . It is a super thing and I am totally passionate about it (at least to my previous likings). So i have started another blog (yup another one – You read it right) about my views and news about anything Sustainable in buildings or otherwise.

Coming Right Back

For all my fans who don't exist and for the readers who don't exist as well , I just wanted to say that I am back. So another era for inane blogging begins.

Would You be a Live Organ Donor ?

Read an article in the Hindu today about New York planning to follow in the steps of Spain and would start donating live organs.

So what is Live Organ Donation ?

In case of an accident apart from the mandatory ambulance ,a special ambulance would also arrive at the scene and would ascertain the situation to see whether the injuries are fatal or not (this I think would hurt many people morally). Then, if the accident indeed leads to fatal injuries, the live organs in the body are removed and used for the people in immediate need of the organs.

Apparently in the US everyday 18 people die due to insufficiency of organs. So in a country like our India ,with our infamous population the number might hover around a 100.So I ask you  :

Personally I would not mind it and I am completely for this.Simply because for people like me(i.e who want to help but not knowing how to do it properly) this would be an ideal opportunity to do something for this world, alive or not. Of course this is my opinion you can tell me yours in the comments.

You can read more about this here.

Googling a Windows Error Message

How often have we got this dreaded generic screen error message or similar.

6-12-2008 11-24-44 PM

I mean its Windows(you cant hate it people) ,so expect a lot of screens like this.

So how do we solve this one.I mean we always have the mother of all encartas and encyclopedias  - GOOGLE !

So feeding the error message into Google would solve us right?

The problem is sitting and typing it would be worse than the problem itself!

So here is what we do : Copy it ! That is it CTRL+C the error message and paste it into notepad CTRL+V.

Voila!

6-12-2008 11-30-12 PM

That is it ,now use this in the google search and HOPEFULLY your problem might just go away!

Hope this helped guys!

Song of the Day - Rayile

Hi All,

Today's song of the day is from the movie Five Star, directed by Susi Ganesan and produced by Mani Ratnam(anything even concerning his name would warrant a look in!!).The song in question being Rayile.I heard this today in the iPod almost maybe after 2-3 years and it was still so damn fresh(it got a five star immediately,no pun) .

Song Highlights

  • The song has a beautiful intro with the humming and strings.
  • Unnikrishan just rocks.
  • A beautiful medley of both slow and fast tempos - just like a train(aka rayile)
  • Wonderful interludes.
  • Song picturing top notch - especially the train pulling scene

Wonder why the music duo(Parasuram Radha)did not continue composing.

Watch the video of this glorious song.

Murphy's Laws

6-12-2008 11-50-56 AM

I have always been a ardent fan of Murphy's Law due to its uncanny resemblance to what happens in my life. It also helps in me getting a different yet humorous (humor always gets me up!) perspective of life.

Some samplers

  • If anything can go wrong, it will - (this is the most generic law)
  • If you need 6 buttons, you will find 5 in your button box.
  • Everything always works in your home, everything always fails on location

Lots more like this.

Hope you enjoy them!
